This book outlines aura research and development from the middle ages until the 21st century. Chapters include:

1.) The Universal Fluid of Life
      2.) 'Subtle' Energy Pioneers
      3.) Pioneers of Aura Photography
4.) Colours and chemical screens for viewing the aura
      5.) Theosophists and Clairvoyants
      6.) Oriental Influences
      7.) Kirlian Research
      8.) Bioelectric Organising Fields
9.) Electromagnetic Properties of the Bioenergy Field
10.) Emotional Nature of the Bioelectric Field
11.) The Aura: Electro Photonic Emission Which Carries Information.
It also contains a comprehensive glossary of scientific and metaphysical terms as well as a bibliography of selected authors' works.

The human aura, or energy field, has been seen by clairvoyants of many cultures for thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians called the subtle body the 'ka', a luminous entity which would separate from the physical body at the point of death. In the Old Testament, Moses was surrounded by radiance after speaking with Yahweh on the mountain. Plato called this life energy 'nous' and Aristotle called it 'entelecheia'. According to Pythagoras and Galen it was 'pneuma'. Early Christian saints were painted with four different aspects of the aura- the Nimbus, the Halo, the Aureola and the Glory. The first two surround the head, the Aureloa surrounds the entire body and the Glory combines all three.

In the east, Buddhist sages were also depicted with coloured haloes around their heads. These paintings usually denoted that the subjects were of a high level of spirituality and purity. Ancient Indian philosophy describes a life force which is called Prana and subtle astral bodies containing chakras and the Kundalini which are now fully integrated into the New Age lexicon. In the second half of the nineteenth century the Theosophist writers Leadbeater, Powell, Ouseley and Bailey popularised Indian esoteric religion, adding to our knowledge of the human energy field (HEF) with its various bodies such as the etheric, astral and causal.

The concept of a universal life force (or fluid) was revived in Europe during the Renaissance by the physician Paracelsus. Centuries later it was studied as Animal Magnetism by Dr Mesmer and the Odic force by Baron Reichenbach. Well into the twentieth century this force was called Orgone by Dr Reich and bioplasma by Russian researchers.

The 'subtle energies', which had apparent healing properties but could not be measured by conventional instruments, were studied in the early twentieth century by researchers like Dr Abrams, Dr Drown and De la Warr. Other scientists like Dr Saxon Burr and Lakhovsky were studying the weak electrical life force of plants and cells while Dr Becker was discovering a pathway of transmission of the electrical energy field through the perineural system. Further research by Dr Nordestrom indicated that this electrical field was transported through the body via an invisible meridian system, validating ancient Chinese acupuncture theory which described Qi, the life force. Contemporary researchers, like Dr Motoyama and Peter Mandel have integrated these acupuncture meridians with modern technology to create innovative diagnostic and therapeutic devices.

In the Soviet Union ground breaking research was conducted into bioelectrography by Semyon Kirlian, photographing an apparent energy field using high frequency electricity. His research led to further discoveries by Dr Moss of UCLA, Dr Korotkov of Russia and Dr Milhomens of Brazil. Other Soviet scientists, such as Dr Inyushin, were studying 'bioplasma' hypothetically the fifth state of matter.

The visual aura was studied and photographed by such pioneers as Dr Baraduc, who utilised Wimshurst machines, and Dr Kilner who used chemically coloured screens. Clairvoyants and mystics such as Edgar Cayce, Rudolph Steiner and T. Lobsang Rampa have contributed to our knowledge of the human aura with their interpretations of auric colours and emanations.

Valuable research was also being conducted in the psychological and psychiatric fields. Drs Karagulla, Pierrakos and Brennan focussed their research on the emotional and healing properties of the human energy field, particularly the etheric and chakras. Dr Ravitz, working with Dr Burr, was able to establish the difference between abnormal and normal mental functioning by studying the Life fields. That the aura and etheric not only show disease but also subclinical conditions preceding disease is now becoming apparent to many aura researchers.

The notoriously elusive human energy field has now been captured by scientific instruments. Dr Hunt's AuraMeter measures extremely high electrical frequencies, SQUID machines measure extremely low magnetic emissions, photomultipliers have captured the faint luminescence of biophotons and Dr Motoyama's AMI machine has measured the meridian system of the etheric body. There has even been groundbreaking research which suggests that the aura extends into the gamma ray and microwave spectra.

The purpose and function of the aura has led to much discussion. Theosophists and clairvoyants see it as the life force, an energy which animates all living things. Scientists such as Dr Korotkov, Dr Chalko, Dr Khanzen and Dr Barsamian are studying the information conveyed by this electro-photonic emission. It may, in fact, be an active medium for relaying information through our DNA.

With all this research it is difficult to believe that orthodox science refuses to acknowledge the existence of the aura. Reluctantly scientists announce that humans emit heat which can be photographed by Schlieren photography, but struggle with the concept that a light emanates from the body. This light is notoriously difficult to study or photograph although pioneers like Dr Popp and Dr Harry Oldfield can not only photograph it, but also measure its energy.

This book will reveal the long forgotten names of the aura pioneers, many of them highly respected doctors, scientists and engineers whose efforts have been overlooked or ignored by history. It is divided into sections for pioneers who believed in the universal 'fluid' or 'energy' of life, clairvoyants and Theosophists, aura photography pioneers, electrical and electromagnetic research, Kirlian studies and oriental influences.

This book provides a glossary of terms, scientific and metaphysical definitions as well as a list of literature by featured researchers. It concludes with a summary of what we have learned about the aura from the many pioneers.

This book presents, in an easy to read style, possibly the most comprehensive summary of aura research available today.

Review

Thankyou for a wonderful website! It is great to find a resource that brings science and metaphysics together so well. I have been researching and studying kirlian photography ( GDV Technology) for 7 years now. I thought I had read about as much as possible about the topic into the obscure researchers of the aura that have made discoveries that can and have changes the way we image our reality. The book itself is the single most complete and comprehensive resource I have ever read. Your book gives the begining and advanced hobbiest or researcher a great avenue to refine and open the mind to greater possibilities. I am so happy that reaserach into subtle energy has made it to main stream book for the entire population to read and not just an academic few. Your website is also a great resource for all Dr Rampas information as I a, also very familiar with his books. Your book would have saved many hours of reading if available 10 years ago. As it covers the complete range of topics from the aura to extra sensory perception and the techniques to develop them. And all this available on one site!

Thanks again
